Abstract

Linear programming has a widespread application in science, technology, engineering and human organizations where decision making is involved. Its use has been extended to the present day to design models of fortified diets at the lowest cost, mainly for children and vulnerable populations in poor countries and regions of the planet. The objective is to design a food menu with optimal combination of ingredients and low cost for students attending college at an altiplano hidalguense Public Institution of Higher Education, applying a linear programming tool with data from nutrition standard information published by the mexican government and private companies, considering local market prices of season food.
